WNDR is a young adult travel magazine. It is a modern approach on the seemingly repetitiveness of travel magazines. With limitations on visual stimulation you are forced to engage more with the literary elements of the magazine. The design approach is geared towards to the idea of emersion, specifically emotionally and intellectually.
Design a poster for an assigned orchestral performance. Utilizing letterforms and typographic elements exclusively, create a poster which inter-prets the orchestral work through meaningful and compelling typographic expression.
I approached this poster by listening to the orchestral piece multiple times. I believed the best way to convey it was through my personal experience. While listening to it I felt as if I was experiencing a day of a common folk. I used the repeated typography to show that progression along with the textural affect to emphasize the working class and the honorable grit that decorates it. Along with my personal experience I used the history of the piece to frame composition. The piece was about two river and the life that embodied the water front, so I stuck with two main composition pieces to represent the river along with the blue background.
Design a poster that displays the characteristics and history of the assigned font. While exploring use of hierarchy, grid and negative space.
I was granted the interesting font Bell Gothic. The history behind it was fun to learn about and very informative. I was especially enticed by the original use of it in phone books. The birth of this font came from phone books and the advancement/normalization of telephone technology. I was intrigued by the idea of conversation that was created by Bell Gothic. It was the forgotten tool people used to communicate via a phone book. I created a texture of phone book like typography and layered to create that conversation feel. Along dynamic secondary font to give the page movement.
